Children at Illfley bearing garlands on May Day 1906. Henry George Lock : The Day before May 1st we would search the meadow for wildflowers. When the season was late it was a good job to find enough. Also 'our good branch of May' that we sang about was always blackthorn as, since the calendar was altered, I doubt if you ever get May blossom out by the 1st'. Far right: May Day garland recreation featuring seasonal wildflowers and vintage broom handle.
Edwardian Bouquet reconstruction left: large naturalistic bouquets inspired by herbaceous borders.
